Der TDS-Wert gibt die Summe der in einer Lösung gelösten Feststoffe an. In der Regel handelt es sich dabei um Messungen an Wasser. Feststoffe sind beispielsweise Salze, Mineralien und Metalle. Deren Gesamtmenge im Wasser wird in ppm angezeigt (parts per million = Teile pro 1 Million Teile).

Die Skala des pH-Wertes reicht von 0 bis 14. Im Bereich von 0 bis einschliesslich 6 befindet sich das Wasser im sauren Bereich. Liegt der Wert bei 7, so ist das Wasser neutral und ab 8 bis 14 ist das Wasser alkalisch. Im Schwimmbad sollte der pH-Wert des Wassers stets im Bereich 7,0 bis 7,4 (maximal 7,8) liegen!
