Woher hat die Bougainvillea ihren Namen?
Die Gattung Bougainvillea wurde 1789 durch Philibert Commerson in Antoine Laurent de Jussieu: Genera Plantarum, S. 91 aufgestellt; der Name ehrt den französischen Seefahrer und „Entdecker“ Louis Antoine de Bougainville, nach dem auch die Insel Bougainville (Salomonen) benannt ist.
